- Short Biography:
-
After graduating from the University of Nottingham with a degree in Biochemistry, Nick worked at the Astbury Centre for Structural Biology at the University of Leeds on the cloning, expression and purification of membrane proteins for crystallographic studies.
From here Nick went to the University of Sheffield to complete a PhD in the multi-disciplinary field of biogeochemistry as part of the Environmental Engineering group within the Kroto Institute.
Since obtaining his PhD in 2010 he has held a number of technical roles related to improving raw materials and processes in industries ranging from medical device manufacture to steel making.
Nick joined the JBL Science as a Project Scientist in January 2017 where he has responsibility for the successful delivery of projects undertaken with industrial/ commercial partners. Drawing on his academic and industrial backgrounds he is able to manage projects in areas as diverse as cultural heritage and mineralogical analysis. By using first-hand knowledge of a range of analytical techniques together with the expertise of the dedicated JBL Science Instrument Scientists, he is able to plan and implement technical workflows to meet client needs.
Subject Specialisms
Nick has a vast array of technical expertise, including the following:
Alternative Raw Materials, Process Improvement, Materials Analysis, Molecular Spectroscopies, Chromatography, Raman Spectroscopic Imaging, Scanning Electron Microscopy, Inductively-Coupled Plasma Optical Emission Spectroscopy
- With a varied background in protein expression and purification, biogeochemistry and materials analysis, Nick brings a wealth of practical expertise and organisational excellence to our research projects
